974,279. Unwinding yarns. K. NIMTZ. Sept.23, 1963 [Feb. 4, 1963; Aug. 29, 1963], No. 37420/63. Heading D1J. As yarn is drawn off the package 8, Fig. 5, it passes over the margin of an elastically yielding disc 15 that is flexed by the presence of the yarn. The disc 15 may be (a) flat, (b) taper in thickness to a minimum at its periphery, (c) have an upwardly curved periphery, (d) corrugated as shown. The edge of the disc may be reinforced by beading and it may have one or more notches therein. In Fig. 11, the packages 110, 111 are mounted in frames 116, 115, the upper frame carrying a ring 113 preventing the elastically yielding disc from being deflected downwardly. The yarn 117 unwinding from the package 110 runs through the gap between the ring 113 and the edge of the disc shown flexed upwardly at 112 by the presence of the yarn. The auxiliary disc 107 facilitates unwinding of the yarn when the package 110 nears exhaustion. The disc 15 may be reinforced at its centre by stiffening discs loosely or adhesively associated with the disc 15. The disc 15 may rest on a spider. The disc 15 may be of synthetic plastic material, animal skin, parchment, or paper.
