Abstract

973,973. Cooling for dynamo electric machines. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. March 20, 1962 [March 28, 1961], No. 11288/61. Heading H2A. A fluid cooled rotor for a dynamo electric machine has at least three substantially axial passages for cooling fluid connected in series and an inlet at one end of the rotor and an outlet at the other end. In Figs. 1a, 1b and 2 an A.C. squirrel cage motor, suitable for mining equipment, is provided with a liquid cooled rotor. The rotor comprises an iron drumlike casting 32 which is keyed to shaft 13. The casting 32 is embraced by a laminated annular body 33 which accommodates the squirrel cage. The cooling liquid enters by pipe 51, passes through duct 45 and port 47 into passage 40, the liquid then passes back and forth along the axial passages till it reaches passage 41 and then it leaves the rotor by port 48 and duct 46 and is finally discharged from the shaft at pipe 52. The shaft ends are fitted with rotary seals 50 which are housed in chambers 53, 54 to guard against leakage. The shaft 13 also has a fan 56 mounted on it.
