Abstract

A paper-coating medium contains satin-white and a salt of citric acid. The binder may be (Example 4) casein plus a polyacrylic ester or (Example 5) casein plus a vinylidene chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer.ALSO:A paper-coating medium capable of application by brush and/or machine coating and containing satin-white is prepared by a process characterized in that the satin-white paste or the coating medium containing satin-white is mixed with salts of citric acid. Naphthalene sulphonic acid condensation products or salts thereof may also be present. In examples, coating media contain, as binders, (a) casein, (b) starch, (c) casein plus a polyacrylate, and (d) casein plus a vinylidene chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer. The compositions may also contain kaolin. Compositions according to the invention have a low viscosity.ALSO:Paper is coated with a composition containing satin-white and a citrate. The composition may also contain a salt of a naphthalene sulphonic acid condensation product and, as binder, casein, starch, casein plus a polyacrylate, or casein plus a vinylidene chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer. The compositions may be applied by brush or machine coating and have low viscosities.
