Abstract
973,460. Container closures. TODD BROS. (ST. HELENS & WIDNES) Ltd. Oct. 18, 1963 [Nov. 24, 1962], No. 44514/62. Heading B8T. [Also in Division E2] A closure for a container comprises a lid and a split band 20 which encircles a bead around the mouth of the container and overlies the periphery of the lid, the band having holes, lugs, projections or eyes in or on opposite sides of the split through which a wire 10 can be passed and then twisted so as to contract the band about the container and lid. The band is bent to U form around the container and the wire 10 passed around the projections 18, eyes 13 on the ends of the wire being hooked on to a twisting tool. The twisting tool consists of an Archimedian screw 14 with a shuttle 15, and has a hook 16 at one end and anchoring means 17 at the other. As the screw is turned the wire ends twist and thus contract the band. In a second embodiment the band is of channel section and extensions of the central web at each end are bent back to form loops through which the wire may be threaded.
