Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0973351/C1/1> wherein X1 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy, W is an aryloxy group and W1 is the same as W or is a primary amino group. The alkyl or alkoxy groups preferably contain up to 6 carbon atoms. The compounds in which X1 is hydrogen are made by reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:0973351/C1/2> wherein Hal is a halogen atom, preferably chlorine, and W and W1 are as defined above, specified reducing agents being hydrogen in the presence of a metallic hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen iodide plus phosphorus tri-iodide. The compounds in which X1 is alkyl may be made by reacting the corresponding 2, 4-dichloro-6-alkyl-s-triazine with a phenol, preferably in the presence of an acid-binding agent. The compounds in which X1 is alkoxy may be made by reacting a compound of Formula II above with a metal alkoxide or with an alcohol in the presence of an acid-binding agent. Examples are given.
