973,126. Reducing fire-hazard. FORTSCHRITT ERNTEBERGUNGSMASCHINEN VEB. Nov. 15, 1962, No. 43232/62. Heading A5A. An arrangement for interposing in a pipeline to prevent the spread of fire through the pipeline (through which gas or gas and a solid is or are blown) comprises a frame carrying connection members for mounting the pipeline and a pipe portion rotatably mounted in the frame so that it is normally held in registration with the pipeline against one or more springs and which rotates, e.g. through 90 degrees, so that it is out of registration with the pipeline when the means for holding the pipe against the action of the spring are released and the ends of the pipeline are closed. In the embodiment shown, the frame 1 with connection members 5 and 6 carries a section 7 rotatable about bearings 12 and 13 to positions in and out of registration with the pipeline. It is held in the position of registration against the spring 17 by a pawl 30 co-operating on a ratchet 29 attached to the winding drum 25 of a tensioning roller 26, the pawl being held in position by a tensioning spring 42 and connecting wire 36 which has fusible soldered " links " 41 which may be positioned over slots in the pipeline connection members. Breakage of the links 41 releases the pawl from the ratchet which enables the section 7 to be urged by the spring out of registration with the pipeline.
