Abstract

1,069,402. Safety harness. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. Nov. 29, 1963 [Aug. 29, 1962], No. 55365/66. Divided out of 1,069,401. Heading A3V. [Also in Division F2] A device for preventing extension of a safety belt includes a reel 8 biased by a spring 9 to wind in the belt 6 and a pair of levers 12 pivoted to side plates 1 and 13 and carrying a rotatable roller 14 about which the belt freely passes in normal circumstances. The levers are biased to the solid line position by the spring 9 but when the belt reaches a predetermined acceleration the levers pivot and a pawl 15 carried by one of them engages with a ratchet wheel 11 secured to the reel. Thus the increase in the bias applied to the lever 12 compensates for the increase in the tension of the belt 6 as more of the belt is unwound from the reel and ensures that the reel is always locked by the pawl 15 at approximately the same acceleration of the belt. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the compensating arrangement is applied to the device for preventing extension of a belt set forth in the parent Application.
