Abstract

972,653. Wood screws; washers secured against loss. M. S. WOOSNAM. May 31, 1961 [May 31, 1960], No. 19242/60. Heading F2H. A metal washer or collar 11 is attachable to the head 12 of a wood screw 13 to achieve countersinking of the head 12 when the screw 13 is driven home, the collar having woodcutting flutes or slots 14 for penetration. It is of frusto-conical form and in one type (Fig. 1) the slots 14 extend helico-spirally in the collar cone, having projections 16 to enter the screwhead slot 17 to lock the collar 11 against rotation with respect to the screw 13. In another type (Fig. 3) the collar metal is deformed inwardly on one side 23 of a slot 22 and outwardly on the other side 24. A portion 21 at one end extends a short distance down the shank of a screw and has slots 22 therein.
