Abstract

[Also in Divisions B8 and H2] A cam-actuated switching mechanism comprises a face cam 1 having an outer annular groove 14 and an inner annular groove 16, which grooves are interconnected by a groove 15, and a switch lever 18 carrying a roller 20 acting as cam follower, spring - pressed latch members 10, 12 being located between grooves 14, 15 and 15, 16, respectively, so that during anticlockwise rotation of the cam 1, the roller 20 remains in the outer groove 14, whilst on clockwise rotation of the cam 1 the roller moves along groove 15 to the centre groove 16 thereby actuating the switch lever 18. Similarly, only on anticlockwise rotation of the cam 1 will the roller 16 travel outwardly along groove 15 to restore the switch lever 18 to its original position. In a modification, shown at the lefthand side of Fig. 1, a spring 29 is disposed between a switch arm 26 and a cam follower arm 28. The switch mechanism may comprise a plurality of switches which are actuated in turn as the cam follower travels along the interconnecting groove 15. A valve with electromagnetic control may be operated by the switch. The mechanism may be mounted on a hose reel and used to start a pump after a predetermined length of hose pipe has been pulled off the feel, or to stop the pump after a length of pipe has been wound on to the reel. In a modification, the cam is fixed and the follower mounted on a rotatable member.
