972,031. Bottle unpacking machines. HOL. STEIN & KAPPERT MACHINENFABRIK PHOENIX G.m.b.H. Sept. 12, 1962, No. 34787/62. Heading B8C. A machine for unpacking bottles from crates has grippers 3 assembled on a head 4, which is actuated by an hydraulic mechanism 5 consisting of two pistons 6 and 7. When the grippers engage the bottles in a crate both pistons are at their lowest positions. Piston 6 is then caused to rise by means of oil entering in the bore 8 through connection 12 until it abuts against the rod 11 of the piston 7. The oil pressure above the piston 7 is equal to that below the piston 6, but due to the different effective areas the upward rise of the piston 6 is checked. The bottles are then moved so that they are a small height relative to the height of the bottles above a conveyer belt 2 and are dropped. The piston 7 is then permitted to rise, piston 6 rising with it in order that the grippers should clear the mouths of the bottles.
