Abstract

971,814. Folding fabric over bead wire rings for tyres. SOC. ANON DES PNEUMATIQUES DUNLOP. June 14, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 22981/62. Heading B7C. In forming fabric round a bead wire (Fig. 1, not shown) for a tyre, a band of fabric 48 is placed round a cylindrical carrier surface, a wire ring 47 surrounding the fabric (Fig. 2), portions P 1 , P 2 of the band bounding inflatable envelopes 19, 20, which are then inflated and deformed (Fig. 5) to fold the fabric over the wire. A packing ring 49, of rubber, may be incorporated. The envelopes are deformed by advancing bell structures 34, 42, sliding on shafts 3, 39, whose flanges 36, 44 shape the fabric and determine the " apex angle " of the element formed. Envelopes 19, 20 are supported by a set of staves 16 which are expanded relative to a drum 5 by inflating bags 6, and a rubber ring 18 tends to pull staves 16 inwards. The fabric is formed with bags 6 inflated.
