Abstract

971,763. Electromechanical delay lines; transistor blocking oscillator circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 17, 1961 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 5954/61. Headings H3T and H3U. The input transducer of an electromechanical delay line comprises a blocking oscillator having a pair of inductively coupled windings 2, 3 wound around the delay line. The oscillatory circuit includes a PNP transistor T connected in common emitter configuration, the emitter being connected to a source of +6 v. through a resistance R1 the value of which determines the pulse width. The collector is connected to a source of trigger pulses over a circuit comprising two diodes G1, G2 which limit the collector voltage and rectify the trigger pulses. Further limitation is effected by diode G3 connected to a source of - 6 v. The delay line 1 consists of stranded nickel wire and is mounted at each end within a plastic tube supported on an insulative sheet which serves at the same time as a printed-circuit board for the input and output. The width of the coil is made equal to twice the width of the pulse multiplied by the speed of sound in nickel. Specifications 781,901, 781,902 and 887,977 are referred to.
