Abstract

In the process of anodizing aluminium using as electrolyte a solution containing sulphosalicylic acid and a metal sulphate or sulphuric acid as described in the parent Specification, the electrolyte, containing dissolved aluminium, is regenerated by passing it through a bed of cationic resin, preferably a sulphonated copolymer of styrene cross-linked with divinyl benzene in the form of beads. Aluminium is taken up by the resin, regenerating sulphosalicylic acid, which is removed for further use by passing water first downwardly and then upwardly through the bed. The bed is then freed from aluminium by washing with H2SO4. Details of flow rates and concentrations are given.
