Abstract

971,074. Amplifying circuits. ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 5871/60. Heading H3T. A low drift direct current amplifying arrangement comprises a direct current amplifier having balanced input terminals and preceded by a substantially drift free amplifier connected to one of the terminals, and means connected to the other terminal for by-passing the drift-free amplifier at higher frequencies, wherein the drift-free amplifier, oe one or more stages is constructed as an active integrator to provide a gain/frequency characteristic which falls with rising frequency. In Fig. 2 a substantially drift-free amplifier such as of the modulator, amplifier, demodulator type has a capacitor C 2 between its input and output terminals. The input 1 is fed directly to input of D.C. amplifier 4 through capacitor C 3 and also to amplifier 2 via input resistor R 2 , the output of amplifier 2 feeding the other terminal of the balanced input of amplifier 4. The amplifier 2 is preferably provided with some smoothing to limit noise fed to amplifier 4. The overall gain of the arrangement is high for so-called D.C. signals and falls to a lower constant level for higher frequencies, Fig. 3, the reference 6 indicating the response for Fig. 2. Both the amplifiers may be transistorized.
