970,914. Pipe joints. EASICLENE PORCELAIN-ENAMEL (1938) Ltd. July 23, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 31089/62. Heading F2G. A joint for forming a fluid-tight seal between a screw-threaded member 1 and a mating member 9 comprises a sealing ring 19 carried in a recessed groove 17 in the mating member in such a position that one side of the recessed groove is formed by a thin annular lip 18 which in the free condition stands out from a face 15 in this member perpendicular to the axis of the screw-threads and slopes towards the axis, the lip being adapted to be deformed by a third member 20, which has a screw-threaded engagement with the first-mentioned member, towards the plane of said face, compressing the sealing ring into sealing engagement with the screwthreads on the screw-threaded member. As shown, the mating member 9 is a banjo casing and the screw-threaded member 1 is a drain fitting, enclosed by the banjo casing and held by its flange 3 from the bottom 5 of a sink. 10 is an overflow pipe connected to an annular chamber 12 in the banjo fitting. The triangular sectioned groove 17 is formed in a circular hole 14 in the bottom of the banjo casing, which is preferably made of polypropylene. When the nut 20 is tightened its upper face 21 comes into contact with the lower face 15 of the banjo casing and the lip 18 then lies in the plane of the face 15 and the ring is deformed into sealing engagement with the threads 2.
