Abstract

Plaster of Paris and cement are coloured by incorporating a reddish-yellow pigment of the formula <FORM:0970471/C1/1> wherein X is NH, R1 is Cl and R2 is H.ALSO:In examples, a yellow pigment of the formula <FORM:0970471/C3/1> wherein X is NH is (2) ground with nitrocellulose, dibutyl phthalate and an ethyl alcohol/ethyl glycol mixture to form a printing colour; (3) mixed with a lacquer made from nitrocellulose, dibutyl phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, the product obtained by reacting cyclohexanone with sodium hydroxide, butyl acetate, methyl acetate and toluene; (4) mixed with polystyrene or polyethylene and homogenized by extrusion; and (5) mixed with a rubber mixture containing pale crepe rubber, sulphur, stearic acid, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, hexamethylene tetramine, zinc oxide chalk and titanium dioxide and the mix vulcanized.ALSO:The invention comprises pigments of the general formula <FORM:0970471/C4-C5/1> in which X is NH or O and which may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy and/or halogen and in which the rings A and/or E may be fused with a further benzene ring, having a mean particle size in the range of from 0.02 to 1 micron. The pigments are made by reacting 2 : 3-dichlorquinoxalines with 2 : 3-diamino quinoxalines or 2 : 3-aminohydroxy quinoxalines followed if necessary by a particle-size reduction treatment such as acid-pasting and/or salt-milling in the presence or absence of water or solvents. The pigments colour a variety of materials in yellow shades. In examples (1) a yellow printing ink is made by grinding together aluminium hydroxide and a linseed oil varnish with a pigment of the above formula carrying no substituents or fused rings and wherein X is NH (fluorubin); and (6) a yellow wallpaper colour is made by adding a paste of the same pigment to a mixture of heavy spar, aluminium sulphate and sodium carbonate in water, adding a barium chloride solution and mixing the precipitate obtained with glue solution.
