Abstract

In examples, the red pigment of the formula: <FORM:0969309/C3/1> is (3) milled with titanium dioxide, a solution of a modified urea-alkyd resin in xylene/butanol, turpentine oil and xylene to give a lacquer; and (4) milled with polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate and dibutyl tin dilaurate to give a red polyvinyl chloride. Other resins which it is stated may be coloured with the novel dyestuffs are polyamides and phthalic acid-glycol polyesters.ALSO:The invention comprises a red dye of the formula <FORM:0969309/C4-C5/1> which is made by reacting one mole of 2 : 6-diaminopyridine with two moles of an acid halide of the formula <FORM:0969309/C4-C5/2> where Hal is chlorine or bromine. The dye is a vat-dye for wool, silk and cotton and may be used as a pigment. In an example (2) a red varnish is made by mixing together hydrate of alumina, linseed oil varnish, cobalt linoleate and the above pigment.
