970,298. Measuring angles. I. CAROSCIOLI. March 19, 1962 [March 24, 1961; Jan. 9, 1962], No. 10395/62. Heading G1X. In an apparatus for measuring camber, toe-in, and possibly caster angles on vehicles, a main rod 1, Fig. 1, has two lateral rods 2, 3 pivoted thereto so as to turn about joints 4, 7, provided with angle indicators 5, 8, and also about sleeves a, c, provided with angle indicators 6, 10, so that on adjusting sleeve 9, carrying joint 7, in accordance with the width of the vehicle, and clamping rods 2, 3, by means such as 13, 15 to the wheels 12, the indicators 5, 8 give the toe-in and the indicators 6, 10 the camber angles of the wheels 12. In a modification, Fig. 3, the joints 4, 7 are each mounted slidably on rod 1 and we supported by adjustable brackets on wheeled trolleys 26. Each set of wheel clamps 21, 22, 24 is secured to rods connected by an articulated joint 25 to the lateral rod 2 or 3 the clamps and rods being so adjusted that joints 25 are positioned in correspondence with the axes of rotation of the wheels when the latter are in the straight ahead position. The steering gear is then operated to turn the wheels through 45 degrees each side of the straight ahead position and, because of the king pin inclinations, rods 2, 3, turn about the axes of journals 29 so that the total angles given on indicators 6, 10, represent the caster angle.
