Abstract

A rhodium-base alloy, for magnetic components in electrical circuits as energy transducers or for thermomagnetic devices in refrigerators, consists of in atom proportions: 0.8-1.2 of Fe, 0.8-1.2 of Rh, and 0.01-0.4 of one to six of the other transition elements having atomic numbers 21-30 (Sc to Zn), 39-48 (Y to Cd) and 57-80 (La to Hg). The alloy may be annealed, e.g. at 950 DEG C. for Fe/Rh/Ru, in an evacuated silica tube. The alloy is prepared by heating mixtures of the above elements, or compounds or alloys thereof, e.g. Fe-Rh alloy, preferably in powder or granular form protected by an atmosphere of He or A, which may be under pressure, or a vacuum, at 600-2500 DEG C.
