970,076. Torsional vibration dampers. SIMPSON MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 29, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 3290/62. Heading F2S. In a vibrational dampener of the kind in which an elastic ring 38 is radially compressed within the annular space between the opposed cylindrical surfaces 22, 30 respectively of an inner hub member 16 and an outer inertia member 28 an elongated groove is defined in at least one of the surfaces 22, 30 for receiving a portion of the elastic ring material the groove having longitudinal portions which extend circumferentially and axially with respect to said one surface. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 sinuous grooves 24, 34 are formed in the surfaces 22, 30 the grooves being preferably axially-misaligned. The grooves may also be of dissimilar frequency and amplitude, or they may be discontinuous or of non- sinuous form. The elastic ring 38 is in the form of a folded annular band which is stretched axially during insertion between the surfaces 22, 30. In a modification, Fig. 4, a groove 341 is formed in the surface 30<SP>1</SP> a corresponding rib being provided on the surface 22<SP>1</SP>. Specifications 813,336 and 933,884 are referred to.
