Abstract

970,013. Earth -grading apparatus. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Jan, 30, 1963 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 3779/63. Heading E1F. In a motor grader adjustment of the grader blade support structure relative to the main frame of the grader is by a power transfer means from speed reduction gearing positioned on the frame forward of the blade support structure as determined by the rear engine-supporting section of the main frame from which a further power transfer means extends from the engine in said section to the gearing. Preferably the power transfer means and gearing are duplicated on either side of the main frame and comprise a first power transfer means of shafting 22, 23, 27b, sun and planet speed reduction gear-box 26 and second power transfer means of shafting 24b. The gear-box 26 involves a sun gear 37 on a floating input shaft 33, a floating, rotatably supported planet carrier 34 coaxial of the sun gear, and double planet gears 36 having a gear 36a meshing with the sun gear 34 and ring gear 38 secured to output shaft 27b and gear 36b meshing with ring gear 42 secured to housing 44 of gear-box 26.
