Abstract
969,410. Valves. SATCHWELL CONTROLS Ltd. July 16, 1963 [Aug. 20, 1962], No. 31924/62. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a body 1, a part of which is formed by a substantially planar diaphragm 5. A lever assembly 2 has a part 6 extending inwardly from the diaphragm and carrying the valve closure 8 while a part 7 extends outwardly of the diaphragm. The lever is mounted on a pivot 3 arranged outside the body and parallel to the diaphragm. The valve is actuated by a temperature responsive actuator 12 having a rigid portion 13 and bellows 14. Movement of the bellows in response to expansion or contraction of fluid in the actuator is transmitted through an abutment 17, which is normally retained at predetermined distance from a cap 16 by a spring 18 and stud 19, but allows movement of the cap and bellows when the valve is closed in the event of an excess temperature. The abutment acts on the lever part 7 against a spring loading 11. The lever may be locked in the valve closed position by a cam. The lever part 7 is housed in a body 10 of heat insulating material which carries a reflecting fin 27. The actuator 12 is mounted adjustably on a ring 23 carried by fingers 24 and a cooling fin 26 is connected to the reflecting fin 27 by means of struts 28. The valve is used for controlling the supply of hot water to a domestic radiator.
