Abstract
A transparent (defined) copolymer of 4-methyl pentene-1 with 3-methyl butene-1 containing less than 10% molar of 3-methyl butene-1 monomer units is prepared by copolymerizing the two monomers with the latter present in excess using the method of polymerization and purification described in Specification 942,297 including the optional use of hydrogen. In the example the catalyst comprises titanium trichloride and aluminium diethyl chloride and the polymer is purified with a mixture of acetyl acetone and isopropyl alcohol followed by washing with isopropyl alcohol mixed with petroleum ether.
