Abstract

968,822. Lighting effects. S. S. CRAMER. Aug. 13, 1963, No. 31994/63. Heading A6M. [Also in Division H4] A lighting arrangement comprises red, green and blue lamps of high thermal inertia mounted in spaced relationship to illuminate a common region, means to select areas illuminated by one or more lamps, and means controlled by an audio frequency output to control illumination by individual amps. The embodiment shows lamps 22, 24, 26 providing red, green and blue light, respectively, shining on ornamental light - occulting arrangements 16, 10, 14 which thus cast shadows of varying colour on a back screen 8. The lamps have reflectors for the purpose of softening shadow definitions. The intensity of each lamp is varied individually in accordance with an audio signal received at the terminals of an amplifier 48, tuned networks 56, 58, 60, 63 being interposed between the said amplifier and saturable reactors 64, 88, 90 controlling the intensity of the light from lamps 26, 24, 22, respectively. The lamps have high thermal inertia to avoid abrupt changes in intensity. An alternative circuit is described with reference to Fig. 5 (not shown), in which the audio signal is fed to separate filters coupled to control circuits operating the lamps. The lamps may be mounted on slowly rotating platforms to produce variations of colour patterns.
