Abstract
968,511. Centrifugal pumps. OFFICINE MECCANICHE FRATELLI MENCARELLI. May 24, 1961 [June 1, 1960], No. 18689/61. Heading F1C. A self-priming rotary pump comprises discs disposed on each side of the rotor, at least one of the discs having a central opening through which the rotor shaft passes, the peripheries of the discs providing a connection therebetween to substantially encompass the rotor, a casing defining a chamber therein in connection with each disc, at least one casing having a central opening through which the shaft passes, each casing having means connecting its chamber to a suction line or a delivery line, each casing and disc being formed from a stamped or pressed material defining surfaces of reduced friction, and means for connecting the discs and casings in operative position around the rotor so that they can readily be disassembled for access to the chambers. In the pump shown in Fig. 1, pressed or stamped casing parts 9<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, 5, 9 are formed with peripheral flanges by means of which they are bolted to a support ring 1 formed with annular recesses 4 for centring the parts. The shaft bearings 19 are carried by sleeves 18, 18<SP>1</SP>. The impeller 3 is enclosed within the inner casing parts 5, the outer casing parts 9, 9<SP>1</SP> forming inlet and discharge chambers. Suction and delivery ducts 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are screwed into threaded parts 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. A corrosion-resistant liner 24 may be provided. In a modification, Fig. 2, the casing parts 9<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, 5, 9 are held together by the same tie rods 56 that hold the parts of the driving motor M together, a clamping ring 55 and cap nuts 57 being provided at the outer ends of the tie rods. A tubular spacer 54 extends between the parts 9<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>, and a conical portion 10 of part 9 abuts a corresponding portion of part 5. A packing ring 51 is provided at the joint between the parts 9 and 9<SP>1</SP>, this joint being staggered relative to the joint between the parts 5 and 5<SP>1</SP>. A flange 37 on the part 5<SP>1</SP> bears against the impeller hub.
