Abstract

968,369. Adjusting relative height of vehicles. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. July 18, 1962 [July 19, 1961], No. 27548/62. Heading B7D. The relative height of two vehicles A, B with pneumatic suspension, connected by a towbar C is controlled by a levelling device H mounted on one vehicle and connected by link H 1 to the other vehicle which adjusts the air pressure in the springs of one vehicle when the relative height changes. The levelling system is arranged so that the levelling device H and levelling devices A3, B3 of the two vehicles may not operate at the same time. The levelling devices A3, B3 are only brought into operation when manual switch I2 or automatic switch I1 is closed, operating electromagnetic valve F to permit air to flow from compressed air tank D to the levelling devices A3, B3. Automatic switch I1 preferably only closes when the vehicle is stationary and the doors are open. Each device A3, B3 includes a levelling valve and a pneumatically controlled cam or rocker which operatively connects the linkage A4, B4 to the levelling valve only when the device is supplied with air through valve F. Depression of switch K closes valve F and opens electromagnetic valve G to supply levelling device H only with air and thus adjust the relative height of the vehicles A, B. Specifications 841,006 and 876,165 are referred to.
