968,138. Rotary piston engines. BETEILIGUNGS-UND PATENTVERWALTUNGSGESSELLSCHAFT. Nov. 20, 1962 [Nov. 22, 1961], No. 43895/62. Heading F1F. In a rotary piston engine of the trochoidal n and n +1 lobe type a piston 2 is coupled to the output shaft 12 by a train of gears-comprising an internal gear ring 6 attached to the piston, pinions 7, 9 fixed on opposite ends of a hollow rotatable shaft 8 extending through an end wall of a housing 1, a pair of spur gears 11 rotatably mounted on a shaft 10, and a pinion 13 attached to the shaft, the piston being rotatably mounted on an eccentric 14 carried by the shaft. The ring 6, or the pinion 7, may comprise two adjacent portions (not shown) which are rotatable relative to another to minimise back lash. The engine may comprise an additional piston 16 which is coupled to the piston 2 by a train of gears including an internal gear ring 18 attached to the piston 16, pinions 20, 24 fixed to a rotatable hollow shaft 15, and a further internal gear ring 17 attached to the piston 2, an eccentric 23 for the additional piston being in anti-phase to the eccentric 14. The engine may also comprise a third piston (not shown) coupled to the piston 16 by a gear train similar to that between the pistons 2, 16.
