Abstract

968,065. Electrostatic precipitators. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. April 19, 1963 [April 21, 1962], No. 15596/63. Heading B2J. A wet precipitator with cylindrical collecting electrodes of 100-120 mm. in diameter, and with a discharge gap of 20 mm., employs a gas flow of 5-15 metres/sec. The discharge electrodes 7 have helically staggered discharge points 8 and are preferably made by extruding a tube with six radial flanges from lead, the flanges being cut out to leave the points 8. The lead tube may contain a steel tube for support. The collecting electrodes 4 are cooled by a water jacket between end plates 3 and 3<SP>1</SP>, turbulence within the jacket being produced by a packing of balls or rings 6. The discharge electrodes 7 are mounted between frames 9 and 12 which are supported on the precipitator casing by insulators 11 and 13. Precipitated moisture and dust are swept down the collecting electrodes by the gas flow and run off the flared ends of the electrodes into a drip tray 14. The flared ends of the collecting electrodes may take the form shown in Fig. 6. Specifications 428,471 and 499,576 are referred to.
