In a device for comminuting solid materials comprising a motor-driven rotor 7 disposed within a casing 4, the rotor and a cover portion 5 of the casing having secured thereto rings 6, 8 formed with tooth-like projections 6<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>, and the material to be treated being fed through an inlet passage 10, the passage 10 has provided therein knife blades 13 secured to the rotor shaft by a nut 11. The casing is either stationary or rotatable in the opposite direction to the rotor. In a modification, the knife blades are oblique to the axis of the inlet passage and are inclined relatively to one another in the manner of an impeller.
