Abstract

Protease is prepared by cultivating Pseudomonas aeruginosa under aerobic conditions in a synthetic nutrient medium containing 3-15% w/v of glucose, 0.05 to 5% w/v calcium or strontium carbonate and less than 0.5% w/v organic nitrogen sources and thereafter extracting the enzyme from the medium by methods known per se e.g. salting out, dialysis, precipitation, elution, chromatography followed by further purification. Preferably the medium also contains sources of ammonium, phosphate and magnesium ions.
