Abstract
Benzothiazolone derivatives of the general formula: <FORM:0967595/C1/1> in which R is hydrogen, halogen or nitro, are prepared by reacting perchloromethylmercaptan with a benzothiazolone of formula: <FORM:0967595/C1/2> in which X is a hydrogen or alkali metal atom and R is as above. The reaction may be at 0 DEG to 50 DEG C. and be carried out in an organic solvent, e.g. aromatic hydrocarbon or aliphatic ketone or water, and in the presence of a condensing agent, e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate. The compounds are useful fungicides.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions contain, as active ingredient, a compound of the formula <FORM:0967595/A5-A6/1> in which R is hydrogen, halogen, or nitro, together with a compatible solid or liquid carrier or diluent. The benzothiazolone compound may be present in amounts between 0.005% and 50% by weight of the composition. Specified forms are dusts, aerosols, suspensions, emulsions and solutions.
