967,557. Vehicle seats. HUMBER Ltd., and R. L CROFT. Aug. 9, 1962 [May 10, 1961], No. 17112/61. Heading A4J. An adjustable vehicle seat comprises a mounting 20, means for securing the mounting to a vehicle which securing means are adjustable to vary the position of the mounting relative to the vehicle, a seat portion, and quickly releasable means 13, 15 for securing the seat portion to the mounting and permitting the seat to be lifted off the vehicle. The seat portion has an underframe 11 independent of the mounting, on which the seat portion can stand freely, when desired. The underframe 11 carries a rod 13 which is held in quickly releasable gate-type latches 15. Each latch 15 comprises a hollow base 16 rigidly attached to the mounting 20 and having an open slot 17 in which the rod 13 rests and is held therein by spring loaded catches which are releasably by levers 19. The mounting 20 has U-channels 21 co-operating with U-channels 24 on a pair of runners 23 rigidly attached to the floor of the vehicle to provide for sliding of the mounting 20 fore and aft of the vehicle. Corrugations 25 are formed in the mounting 20, a centre corrugation having a slot 26. A variable stop plate 27 is rigidly attached to the floor of the vehicle and is provided with a ridge 29 having a number of slots 30 any one of which may be brought to register with the slot 26. A tongue 34 is urged by a spring 35 into engagement with the slot 26. The tongue 34 is formed on the end of a bar 33 which has a handle 36 at its other end rotation of which turns the tongue 34 out of engagement with the slots. Springs 7 urge the mounting 20 towards its forward position.
