Abstract

967,418. Batteries. ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 46361/62. Heading H1B. To prevent illicit use of a dry cell before sale, a frangible seal 11, e.g. of plastics coated paper, covers at least one of the cell terminals (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), and the seal 11 is anchored at its edges between the top closure 16 and the crimped-over periphery of the cylindrical insulating jacket 17 which, together with outer metallic shell 18, forms the side wall structure of the cell. Indentations or perforations 13 provide membered portions of the seal 11 to facilitate breaking of the cell. Pierced holes 19 in the end portions 14 of the seal 11 serve to increase the friction between the seal and the crimped-over periphery of the insulating jacket 17.
