Abstract
967,345. Coin-freed amusement apparatus. A. J. L. CROMPTON. June 20, 1963, No. 24563/63. Heading G4V. [Also in Division A6] An automatic amusement machine having a plurality of play-stations 16 has a master controller which operates cyclically to first indicate to a player when to insert a coin at one of the pay-stations and then, after projecting a ball 28 to the top of an upright or inclined panel 12 and making a random selector mechanism operative to illuminate divisions 33 successively, actuate a coin dispenser provided that the ball drops through a receptacle 42 corresponding to the pay-station previously primed by the insertion of a coin. Any number of players can take part in a game. The master controller may consist of a drum which is rotated at a low speed by a motor so that raised portions on the drum actuate electrical contacts in sequence as the drum rotates. When the controller causes "play" lights 18 to be illuminated, one or more players may insert their coins into slots 17 in the pay-stations of their choice and thereby close priming contacts. After a period of time, the controller extinguishes the "play" lights and causes any further coins inserted to be rejected and returned to the players. The'controller then activates the solenoid 51 of the projector 29 so as to project the ball 28 from a cup 48 and cause it to fall between deflecting pegs and finally pass over a hinged member 42 to depress a striker-pin 44 to close contacts of a secondary priming device while the random selector, which is of the kind described in Specification 881, 803, is rotated to illuminate successively the divisions 33 and stop opposite a division at random to indicate the odds. The odds are only paid out when the contacts of the secondary priming device are in the same electrical circuit as the contacts of the priming device operated by a coin. Both the coin freed priming devices and coin dispensers may be of the kind described in Specification 967, 344.
