1284898 Chance apparatus PHONOGRAPHIC TECHNICAL Ltd 2 Nov 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 54219/69 Heading A6H [Also in Division G4] A coin or token operated amusement apparatus in which two games of chance are played simultaneously comprises first and second machine units; the first machine unit includes a panel 15 which contains a number of positions at which either of two symbols, e.g. a ball and an arrow is indicated, said positions being arranged in pairs one for each of the two symbols, which are placed in a predetermined juxtaposed relation to each other; the second machine unit being of the "fruit machine" type but modified to include another drum 28 which indicates the odds the apparatus pays out for the game successfully played on the first machine unit. The operation of the apparatus is as follows: a player inserts a coin or token through slot 17 and activates the apparatus by depressing lever 47. The first machine unit, which has three random selection mechanisms, one for each of the two symbols and the other for the odds indicator drum 28, selects a random position for the arrow, which position is shown on panel 15 by illumination thereof, and at the same time the three drums 25, 26, 27 of the "fruit machine" are set in motion. The random ball and odds selection mechanism are also activated. The drums 25, 26, 27 stop first and thereafter the random ball and odds selection mechanism stop simultaneously at the end of their preset cycle. If the ball illuminated on panel 15 is in the predetermined juxtaposed relation to the illuminated arrow, the apparatus pays out according to the odds shown on the drum 28 which is numbered from 1 to 10, i.e. if drum 28 indicates number 5, the apparatus pays five times the value of the coin or token inserted in the slot 17. The drums 25, 26, 27 apart from the usual fruit representations and the like also include representations of the ball and for every ball visible through the respective windows on panel 22, the apparatus illuminates one or more additional arrows on panel 15 thus giving the player extra chances of winning. If the player is fortunate enough to win the ball and arrow game as well as the game on the "fruit machine", the apparatus compares the two odds and pays out the highest to the player. The player may win on the "fruit machine" only, the apparatus then pays out the odds as shown on panel 29. The player may hold any of the drums 25, 26, 27 by pressing respective buttons 48, 49, 50 and he can cancel his choice by pressing button 51. The number of games credited to the player is shown at 46. Slot 19 accepts coins of higher denominations. Tray 20 is for collection of the prize or change and 21 is the prize release button.
