966,432. Moulds for use in moulding ceramic articles. SILIKAUND SCHAMOTTEFABRIKEN MARTIN & PAGENSTECHER A.G. Sept. 28, 1962 [Oct. 12, 1961], No. 36896/62. Heading B5A. A mould, for use in compression moulding ceramic articles e.g. bricks, comprises an outer preferably oval shaped, ring like body 1 of a fibre-reinforced plastics material or metal which supports, by means of bolts 17, four lining plates 4-7 of e.g. iron which are machined to receive internal pattern plates 12-15. A plastics material containing metal chips or particles of quartz or a ceramic material, or an hydraulic material such as cement, is moulded between the ring and the lining plates and allowed to set to form a pressure resistant supporting body 11. The mould thus formed is machined plane parallel top and bottom and clamped to a press table 18 by a cover plate 19 and bolts 20. The cover plate may or may not abut the pattern plates as is shown by the right-hand and left-hand sides of Fig. 2 respectively. A brick &c. of a different format may be produced by removing, the supporting body, replacing the pattern and lining plates and remoulding a new supporting body.
