Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0966265/C1/1> (wherein R is an alkyl radical of 2 to 8 carbon atoms and X- is an anion) and the esters thereof with carboxylic acids; and their preparation by quaternizing a tropine with the appropriate reactive ester p-R-C6H4-CH2X and then, when the esters are required, acylating the product; and the preparation of the esters by quaternizing an appropriate tropeine with a reactive ester as defined above. The products may have the syn or anti configuration. Examples are given, esterifying acids being benzoic, tropic and phenyl-cyclohexylacetic acids. The esters of the invention, which are stated to be parasymatholytics and spasmolytics, may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions, e.g. tablets and injections, with suitable carriers.
