Abstract

966,201. Braiding. SCHNELLFLECHTER BERLIN VEB. Jan. 23, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No. 2512/62. Headings D1C and D1K. A circular braiding machine for covering articles such as cables or hoses with a braid of textile, synthetic, asbestos or metal threads comprises a set of weft bobbins 15 and a set of warp bobbins 16 revolving in opposite directions, the warp threads 16a, 16b being manipulated by levers 9 to cause them to pass above and below the weft bobbins as the bobbins revolve so as to form the braid. The warp bobbins are mounted on a ring 6 secured to a body portion 4 of the machine driven through gearing from a shaft 1. Each weft bobbin is mounted to slide on the ring 6 and is driven from a central part 12 rotating in the opposite direction to the portion 4 by a dish-shaped driver member 13 rotatably mounted on the part 12 and engaging a groove in a carrier 14, slidable on ring 6 and supporting the weft bobbin. The member 13 carries at its lower end a gear 13b meshing with an internal gear on ring 6 so that as it revolves with the part 12 it also rotates periodically bring- ing a slot 13a formed in it into a position in which the warp thread can be lowered to pass beneath the weft bobbin. Slots 6a are also formed on the ring 6 for the same purpose.
