Abstract

965,943. Refrigerators. T. M. ELFVING. March 7, 1962 [March 14, 19611, No. 8779/62. Heading F4H. The low temperature compartment 20 of a refrigerator is cooled by a thermocouple assembly 23 the hot junctions of which are cooled by a second thermocouple assembly 8 which also cools the storage compartment 14. Heat from the compartment 14 and from the hot junctions of the assembly 23 is absorbed by a double-walled liner 11 which is partly filled with a refrigerant and is in direct thermal contact with the cold junctions of assembly 8. A second double-walled member 17 serves to dissipate heat from the hot junctions of assembly 8 and may form a warming compartment. Grooved, anodized aluminium plates 9, 16 and 24 are connected to the junctions of the assemblies 8 and 23. In further embodiments (Figs. 3 to 4, not shown), the compartment 20 is located beneath the storage compartment 14 and the double-walled member 17 is spaced from the liner 11 by thermal insulation, except for a portion in direct thermal contact with the thermocouple assembly 8. The member 17 may be replaced by a finned structure having a fan circulating air thereover.
