Abstract

965,614. Vehicle suspensions. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 23, 1963 [Aug. 17, 1962], No. 31598/62. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle rear wheel suspension, a U-shaped torsion bar is pivotally mounted in brackets 13 attached to the vehicle body and is engaged by inwardly directed tongues 10 of lower wheel arms 9, there being a splined connection between the ends of the torsion bar and the front tongues 10. A differential gear 1 is attached to the vehicle body, and driving shafts 3, which are connected by universal joints 2 and 4 to the differential gear output shafts and wheel drive shafts 5, respectively, form the upper links of the suspension. The wheel drive shafts 5 are journalled in members 6 pivotally connected at 8 to the lower arms 9.
