A polishing appliance comprises a polishing head embodying a rigid foundation plate 1, e.g. of wood, and having attached to its underface a resilient pad 2 over which is spread a polish applying cloth 8 having portions extending through slots 4 in the plate 1 and retained by fasteners, e.g. press studs 9, against the upper surface of the plate 1. The cloth 8 is being so carried that it does not overlie boundary edges of the plate 1. A socket 5 for a handle is secured to the plate 1.
