964,786. Mixing appliances. O. FAHR. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1959], No. 35378/60. Heading B1C. Apparatus for granulating a powdered synthetic thermoplastic and a plasticizer comprises a container 1 with rounded bottom edge 2<SP>1</SP> and a rotatable stirrer in the form of a ring 6 carrying alternately blades 7 and 8. The blades 7 have an inner portion between the ring 6 and the hub 5 rising no higher than the height h<SP>1</SP> of the ring, and a portion outside the ring rising to a height h level with the top 10 of the curved portion of the container. The blades 8 are wholly outside the ring 6 and are not more than half the height of the blades 7. Both types of blade are curved to conform closely to the shape of the container and are inclined at an angle, and rotated in such a direction, as to urge the materials upward. There is a discharge passage 4 tangential to a circle 11 of radius intermediate between that of the ring and the container, and having a branch discharge passage 13. A sliding plug discharge valve 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> has its end shaped to form with the container wall an uninterrupted surface when in the closed position 4<SP>1</SP>.
