Abstract

964,611. Air cushion vehicles. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. July 8, 1963 [April 6, 1962], No. 13255/62. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle is provided with a fluted, or pleated flexible jet skirting system attached to the base structure of the vehicle in a normal fluted or pleated state to provide sufficient rigidity to resist outward flexing under cushion pressure whilst permitting outward movement when obstacles are struck or to relieve excessive cushion pressures. The base platform 1 of the vehicle carries a rigid annular gas supply duct 2 to which is attached a flexible skirting assembly 5 comprising a plurality of individual ducts 8 formed from walls 10, 11 inter-connected by flexible folded webs 7 of U or V-shape, each duct 8 terminating in a curtain-forming nozzle 3. The various parts of the skirting may be secured by stitching or stapling or the skirting may be moulded. Specifications 860,781, 925,425 and 29,671 are referred to.
