Abstract

964,582. Soldering. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 1, 1960 [Nov. 4, 1959], No. 37512/60. Heading B3R. [Also in Division H1] In a method of soldering a connecting wire 7 to an end surface 12 of a capacitor roll the connecting wire is inserted in a channel 8 traversing an auxiliary soldering tool body 1, which has a cup-shaped cavity 5 aligned with the channel, and a predetermined amount of solder is introduced into the cavity and melted. The capacitor roll is brought momentarily into contact with the soldering tool body and then the tool is moved away from the capacitor roll so that the connecting wire is left attached to the capacitor. The lead is then cut to the required length- It is essential that the wall surface of the cavity in the tool is not melted by fluid solder. Several arrangements for providing the heat necessary to melt the solder are referred to. The block may be of resistive material to which heat is supplied continuously or intermittently by passing an A.C. current through it or may be of insulating material and be heated by inductive high frequency methods. The capacitor roll may comprise electrodes of evaporated aluminium or a lead-tin foil, and the dielectric may be a foil of polystyrene.
