Abstract

667,532. Condensers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 26, 1950 [April 29, 1949], No. 10273/50. Class 37. A method of manufacturing a capacitor of the type comprising alternate conductive and insulating layers surrounding a core, the whole being subjected to a diameter reducing treatment, comprises using a metal core 1, e.g. a tube of copper, in which solder 2 is provided, a contact wire being secured to the core 1 by introducing it, during heating, into the tube 1. Flux 3 is also included in the tube 1, and hence the contact wire is securely soldered to the core. The tube 1 with solder 2 and flux 3 is first swaged to reduce its diameter, and placed in a second copper tube 4, magnesium oxide 5 being introduced into the space between the tubes 1 and 4. Copper caps 6 close the end of the device which is then swaged and drawn to reduce its diameter to 1.3 mm., and cut into predetermined lengths, e.g. 30 mm. The heated contact wire is then introduced into one end, a second wire being soldered or clamped to the outer tube 4.
