Abstract

Drying oils are prepared by polymerizing an oxazoline compound of formula: <FORM:0964145/C3/1> where R is hydrogen or <FORM:0964145/C3/2> R1 is alkyl and X is 1, 2 or 3 using a peroxide catalyst and heating the product to a temperature not less than 150 DEG C. Specified catalysts are ditertiary butyl peroxide, cumene peroxide and benzoyl peroxide. The drying oils may be incorporated in coating compositions with pigments, dyes, solvents, resins e.g. maleic and other driers. U.S.A. Specification 2,559,440 is referred to.
