Abstract

963,918. Revoluble magnetic recording &c. heads; local circuits for. RANK-BUSH MURPHY Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6298/62. Heading G5R. [Also in Division H3] The windings on an even number of heads 13-16, simultaneously energized so as successively to record transverse tracks, when rotated by means 4, 5 across a magnetic tape 1 are so phased with respect to a common terminal 17 that the current in the lead thereto, being the algebraic sum of all the head currents is substantially zero (as contrasted with the usual practice, Fig. 2 (not shown) where the algebraic sum is also the arithmetic sum and large enough to generate appreciable noise in the slip-ring connection thereto). The individual leads to the heads are each associated with hybrid amplifiers 8-11 (for details see Division H3) by which compensation for individual head sensitivities can be made. Conveniently, the same system is used on playback, by the use of a multiple changeover switch 7.
