962,072. Mats. CIMEX Ltd. June 13, 1963 [June 19, 1962], No. 23599/62. Heading A4S. A mat comprises spaced parallel slats 10 of aluminium alloy, a strip 11 of rubber or other resilient material undulating between each pair of slats and secured to one of them by tubular connectors passing through the strip and slat, and wires 20 each extending through a connector on each slat and secured at each end to an end part of the mat to hold the slats together. The connectors are in the form of eyelet rivets 16 having a preformed flange 17 resting against the strip 11 and the other end 18 being turned over to engage the slat 10. End parts 12, 13, 14 of the mat are ramps of extruded aluminium alloy, secured together by screwing to corner fillets 27, and the end part 15, to lie against a vertical surface, is a slotted hollow rectangular member one end of each wire 20 being passed through a hole 21 until held by a cable nipple 22 threaded through the rivets 16 and secured by a cable nipple 26 passed through a slot 25 in the end part 12 and held between projections 23 by tension in the wire. A securing wire for the ends of the members 13, 14 remote from the part 12 passes longitudinally through the end part 15 and is secured by nipples. In modifications a mat intended for a well is frameless, ramp members are provided on four sides of the mat, the slats are constructed similarly to the end part 15 the rivets extending through wall opposite the slot, or the wires 20 are replaced by a single wire.
