Abstract

961,929. Printing apparatus. F. W. JEFFERIES, and ASCOT LAMPS & LIGHTING Ltd. Aug. 26, 1960 [Aug. 28, 1959], No. 929/64. Divided out of 961,928. Heading B6C. [Also in Division H1] To facilitate the automatic threading of the lead-in wires through the apertures of a lamp cap, in making incandescent electric lamps, means are provided for applying a localized coating at a predetermined position on the lamp foot in relation to the positions at which the lead-in wires are anchored and, after the foot has been sealed into the bulb, for automatically turning the uncapped lamp until the lead-in wires are in a predetermined plane, the turning being controlled by a photo-electric device coupled to the turning means and comprising a photo-electric cell and a light source so disposed that the light flux on the cell is affected by Fig./. moving of the coating into a predetermined position The marking machine comprises a support 3 carrying a bracket supporting a mask disc 10 having a series of peripheral apertures and mounted on a shaft 12 carrying a toothed wheel 13 so that as each foot 1 is indexed to marking position the mask 10 is advanced one step. Marking fluid, e.g. sodium silicate, is supplied from a reservoir 5 by a pipe 8 to a spray nozzle 9 and is intermittently sprayed by compressed air supplied through a pipe 15 controlled by a valve operated by the driving mechanism of the indexing machine through the mask 10 on to the flange of the foot 1.
