Abstract

961,818. Gear-chamfering. F. HURTH, and H. HURTH. April 5, 1963 [June 13, 1962], No. 13601/63. Heading B3K. [Also in Division F2] A spur and bevel-gear chamfering machine comprises means for indexing the axiallyadjustable gear while the tool spindle is retracted, the tool spindle being mounted on a slide 37 carried on a slide 36 mounted on a column for displacement (as by raok-and-pinion means) in a plane at right angles to the work axis, and being swingable in a plane parallel to the tool and work axes. Both corners of a tooth of a spur gear 23, Fig. 2, may be machined simultaneously by a twin tool head or by separate tools. The work is carried on an adjustable headstock 32. The tool headstock 39 is adjustable angularly on the cylindrical slide 37 adjusted vertically by screw means. Two such tool headstocks may be provided. A motor 42 rotates a shaft 46 through variable-speed &c., gear 43 to index the work and feed the tool(s). The indexing drive is via a shaft 50, an adjustable crank 61, Fig. 9, a link 64 and a one-way clutch 67. The indexing movement is determined by a pawl 73 controlled by a cam and a lever 71, the pawl engaging one of a series of notches in an angularly-adjustable plate 74. Movement of the crank 61 in excess of that set by the pawl is taken up by springs 68 in the link 64. Rotating with the crank 61 is a cam co-operating with a switch 79 to stop the machine, change the workpiece, or for switching on a feed motor. A cutter carriage 91, Fig. 14, is mounted in the headstock 39 and is fed by a nut 97 rotated by the feed-motor. A cam 145 on the carriage may actuate a switch 144 to control a loading operation. The tool spindle is rotated by a motor and belt gearing and is journalled in a sleeve in the carriage. The sleeve is adjusted axially by rack-and-pinion gearing, the pinion being adjustably connected to a lever 113 oscillated by a link 115 mounted freely on an eccentric adjusted by a cardan shaft 128 and a worm gear 126. The eccentric is mounted on a carrier 118 which is oscillated by a cam 89 engaging a roller 119 on the carrier. (The train 89-115 may be replaced by a simple adjustable crank or a slotted link-and-crank drive). The headstock 32, or a bridge over it, may carry a further headstock 150 for bevelling the opposite ends of a work gear.
